A friend is one who comes in at the door

When the rest of the world rushes out

When the cares of the world are upon us

And our minds are so full of doubt

A friend is the one who is different

To the rest of the folk that we know

Who will find a reason for staying

When others find an excuse to go

A friend is one who will speak the words

They know we are longing to hear

To make the problems we must face

A little easier to bear

A friend is one who will hold out their hand

When we are sinking in life’s flood

Who will pull us slowly back to the shore

As we know that a good friend would

A friend is one who in times of need

Will give us love without measure

The most precious gift that this earth affords
