Granddad’s Fun

Granddad is such a lovely chap,
Thinks the Grandson on his lap,
Not that Granddad says so much,
Just a nod, a wink and such,
He’d taught him to play dominoes,
And other games that he now knows,
He helps him light his cigarette,
But not quite understanding yet,
What on earth he’s coughing for,
Not knowing he’d been in the war,
Avoiding gas on Somme’s war front,
His Regiment taking all the brunt,
An outcome that was just forgone,
When caught without his gas mask on,
Now no one seems to give a thought,
For our freedom that he’d fought,
The boy only thinks that Granddad’s fun,
And not bothered of the war he’d won,
Granddad is such a lovely chap,
Thinks the Grandson on his lap.
