My
mind caught
in muted shades
unable
to describe
many recurring thoughts.
They
are like
arroyos that toss
and
tumble about
red, tainted rocks.
Muted
shades of
moss green, tan.
Before
I left
for the war
May
was put
into an Interment
Camp.
she was
Japanese you see.
She
was our
neighbor, fifteen years.
Muted
shades of
war moss green
joining
forces on
green cloudy fields
walk
-walk -walk
sleeping in trenches.
The
shooting, bombing
booby traps -hidden.
Muted
moss green
turns to gray
Then
tan shows
bright red as
you
realize your
friends are dead.
Muted
shades of
war like arroyos;
toss
and tumble, red
tainted rocks,
are
the ones
that hurt most.
