A single poppy braved
Without surrender
Dared to wave, despite
Inclined petals clung
To the core.
Blow your seeds
Across the fields
And meadows
Root afresh
With pride.
We were there
All of us,
Descendants
Of Flanders
Honouring our cenotaph.
A straight pin
Or sticky back, holds
A medal at our chest
To remind us,
How vulnerable life is.
