Rorke’s Drift

And did those feet in Victorian times
March through that thick, brown sand so fine?
Red coats marching through the hot sun
In time?
And does the ring of those fine Welsh voices
Still ring?
In that uplifting way only the Welsh sing?
As battle raged and bullets pinged

Through fire and spear the Regiment stood
Did that song give them the extra strength they sought?
Through the years, does that song still sound
In Rorke’s Drift and around?
As it did nearly two hundred years before?
And will it sound evermore
