Hope lies crumpled like a promissory note
Our spirits by Life’s sorrows broke.
What cruel misfortunes we have known
Some losses are a lifetime borne…
We grow in wisdom through the years
To be the master of our fears.
Cold winter days will soon be gone
The birds regale us with their song.
Joy is found in those myriad things
That can a moment’s solace bring.
The sunlight on the spider’s web
A woven dream of silver thread.
The wild flower in its beauty grows
The Irvine through the valley flows…
The frost upon the windowsill
Imparts a certain magic still.
