Through the mist and smoke of war
A flash of white is seen,
Maybe wings of angels
Or maybe just a dream.
But as the bombs fell silent
Fluttering wings were heard,
And there upon a burnt branch
Now sat a snow white bird.
Put down your rifle soldier
You don’t need it anymore,
The fighting is all over
And death has closed the door.
Take off your helmet soldier
Feel the sun upon your face,
See, all the smoke is fading
From this dark and dreadful place.
Its time to leave now soldier
Turn your back and march away,
For now the war is over
You shall live another day.
The young man rose up silently
To feel the peace and love,
And through the mist they took their leave, –
The soldier and the dove.
