Masquerade

People look maybe like what they see, little knowing it’s not the real me
If only they could see behind the mask, a barrier from the world outside
“No way out” and “No way in”, just separation of insurmountable kind

I have fashioned a lock without shaping the key
Perhaps hoping one day they will find the real me
Why do I need this projection of self

Memory serves to remind me of trust
Of a time long ago when I shared deepest thoughts

“No”

Keep safe behind the mask, if it slips a bombardment of feelings will ensue
Buried by an avalanche of emotion gasping for air
Stay safe, don’t shape a new key, better they never know the real me
