By winds and tides of fortune tossed
A much-loved friend whom we have lost.
And in your parting from our lives
Cruel Fate upon His charger rides.
To be held in such high esteem
We lesser men but fondly dream.
The light of morning’s growing dim
The birds their plaintive aubade sing.
With Spring’s quietus summer comes
The world upon its axis turns.
Though, we have memories to cherish yet
Of one, who truly, was well-met…
