If life’s a garden full of thorns
Each morning brings its song
Every brier-patch hides a rose
That blossoms then is gone.
Our happiness is all we have
To cherish like a jewel
More precious than a crown of gold
That’s set upon a fool.
A gentle heart’s more worthy than
The prince upon his throne
A friendly word more treasured than
The world’s more precious stone.
If this be true, each day’s a gift
That you’ll unwrap with joy
Your summers linger like a kiss
Harsh winters cannot spoil.
And, even, as the night grows cold
When the frost hangs in the air-
Fond memories of an April mist
Shall chase those clouds away…
