HARVEST

by | Aug 8, 2012 | Poetry | 0 comments

In frozen winter’s grasp, the land
Lay frozen, un-attended
Yet sprang to life in April’s sun
A sign that winter’s ended

And so we tilled the warming earth
So grateful that we could
But May brought rain and rain again
To turn the fields to mud

All through June and then July
The rain fell constantly
Dashing hopes that harvest time
Would never really be

But Mother Nature triumphed still
And crops were gathered in
Fields were ploughed and tilled once more
For the cycle to begin
