My father was a soldier
He fought within a war
My mother told me
When I was only four
I saw the tears in my mother’s eyes
I saw the pain upon her face
She told me he served his country
In a God forsaken place
All we have left are memories
Of all the good times gone by
When I look at my father’s medals
It brings a tear into my eye
I watched my mother’s pain
And the courage to carry on
I was among thousands
Who lost a father on the SOMME?
