Brave were the few
Who ventured that night
Away from the warmth
Of their fireside bright
Cold was the wind
That scattered the snow
Hither and yon
Above and below
Nothing was left
Untouched by the storm
Beasts in the field
Stood close to be warm
Then snow upon snow
Soon covered the ground
A blanket so thick
It killed every sound
Hour after hour
And all through the night
Turning the land
To grey and to white
At break of day
When folk were awake
Clouds were deplete
They’d shed every flake
Icy cold white
The snow covered all
A winter-land sight
To hold you in thrall
Bells broke the peace
To stir all and say
Jesus is born
This cold Christmas Day
