(Listen) A Comrade’s Promise

Tis held within my mind and aching heart
A burden buried deep from prying eyes
Lies tucked away from light; now set apart
Forever and a day, until one dies
Yet memory and conscience doth prevail
Midst each unguarded moment in one’s life
Releasing and reliving each detail
Resulting in known demons, causing strife
Couldst e’er I hope to rid myself of guilt
Embracing that which haunts each waking hour
Or wouldst the darkness fall once words are spilt
An all consuming act which may devour
Said secret shared, may save one’s soul from hell
Rings true; “If thou shouldst promise not to tell”
