Ends of the Day

Crepuscular activity holds sway
As Scarab beats retreat from morning star
Its royal seal protecting ancient prey
From thirsting lizard, moisture doth debar
Lithe Serpent winds its way on balanced scale
Across the grains of sand in rhythmic crawl
The warmth of sun will help it to prevail
Should need arise for lightning strike to call
Nocturnal dance is marked for all to see
With partners in said waltz, held at arm’s length
Excuse me seems to be at odds with plea
Yet sitting out betrays a show of strength
If e’er thou venture forth in foolish aim
Such consequence leaves none but thee to blame
