Flowers

January, Frost is clinging
From trees and boughs on high
Like a shroud of white it lays
Set against a clear blue sky.
Drifting into February
Rising bulbs are seen
Snowdrops and Daffodils show their heads
Spreading colour to a carpet of green.
March winds blow their icy blast
Some of the Tulips are showing at last
Has the Winter really passed
Now that April’s here.
Bringing with it frequent showers
Trees their leaves will grow
Roses looking even stronger
Their rich silk heads now show.
With May we’re looking ever forward
Warm Summer days are not far away
Flowers now are in abundance
In the fields the fresh cut hat.
June, the Sun is scorching down
Parching tender grass
Will it last this lovely weather
Or just as quickly pass.
July, the Peonies in splendour
Their life it seems so brief
Clematis hanging from the trellis
Bareness of the walls relieve.
Colour everywhere resplendent
Green & Gold & Pink & Blue
Summer’s really in it’s fullness
Sending forth it’s royal hue.
August now the Summer’s closing
Cornfields their golden crop have shed
Gladioli stand erect like soldiers
In Pink & White & Mauve & Red.
Autumn’s coming with September
Trees their leaves will turn to gold
But still the shades of Nature
Are a wonder to behold.
Onward now into October
Carpets of fallen leaves on the ground
Mainly Chrysanthemums and Roses
The only flowers to be found.

November bringing mist and frost
Any flowers now are lost
Their heads to black have turned
Onto compost heaps they are tossed
In December no flowers to be seen
But Wind & Frost & Snow
It’s a time that we all have to wait
For next years flowers to grow.
