La Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans

Whilst moulding of her form; which still impacts
‘Degas’ didst capture pose with palette knife
An image cast in bronze from sculpted wax
More treasured now; than ever was in life
Young Mad’moiselle Marie – (‘tho de Belgique)
Twas student of ballet in ‘Gay Paris’
Yet what he saw in her would prove unique
Inspiring of a piece, none else couldst see
Exhibiting invited harsh review
“Depravity” amongst descriptive phrase
Old ‘Men of Faith’ were heard to spout “Mon Dieu”
Then all didst later seek to reappraise
Tho Century of years has long since passed
In Art as here portrayed, ‘doth youth outlast’
