LAUGHTER TO TEARS.

The ginger tom watched from his perch
On the bombed, broken wall
The children laughed as they
Chased a blue football
Yet in the fields across the dirt track
Beneath the majestic pines
Just waiting to amputate
THE COLD HEARTLESS MINES.

The sun melts the winter snow
In the hills high above
Streams swell into rivulets
Like tears once shed for love
These emerald snakes meander along
Yet amongst this beauty
ONLY DEATH SINGS HIS SONG.

Why do the innocents suffer it all?
From the orphans of carnage
To the kids with their ball
Why can’t we stop the need for war?
Please help me to understand
What it’s all for.
