O MY MOTHER COUNTRY

O Mother…my Mother…my Mother Country…
You have spawned me…you taught and informed me.
You talked once of rights and freedom of mind…
And respect and citizenship…and to others to be kind.
But we are no longer a Nation that is free…
For we are imprisoned by bureaucracy.
Of Freedom and Truth I had once a vision…
But it’s all an illusion…a bitter delusion.

O Mother…my Mother…my Mother Country…
You have disowned me…you have abandoned me.
You promise quality of life from the cradle to the grave…
But you take all the wealth that I can save.
You said when I suffered you would provide me with care…
But when I needed you most…you were not there.
Of Hope and Compassion I had once a vision…
But it’s all an illusion…a bitter delusion.

O Mother…my Mother…my Mother Country…
You have broken me…you have forsaken me.
You offered us all that you had to give…
To make ours a better Nation in which to live.
You promised to punish all those who are bad…
But instead the good have lost the Faith that they had.
Of Justice and Fairness I had once a vision…
But it’s all an illusion…a bitter delusion.

O Mother…my Mother…my Mother Country…
You have dismayed me…you have betrayed me.
You told me you would listen to what I had to say…
But whenever I spoke you turned me away.
You have scorned me as if I was a fool…
And handed our Nation to a foreign rule.
Of Trust and Honour I had once a vision…
But it’s all an illusion…a bitter delusion.
