South Armagh April 1974 to April 1975

Northern Ireland is beautiful and green,
But now the true beauty can never be seen,
Because as soon as they start enjoying the view,
They find themselves stuck in a queue
For one of our V.C.P.s.

If the locals could see things as we do,
They would never moan about being stuck in a queue,
Because they would realise,
That is “just a job”
That the Army have to do.

The Army always apologises to them,
For the inconvenience that seems pointless to them,
But don’t they think it seems pointless to us,
So if they just go through without making a fuss,
It would be quicker and easier for everyone.
