What would I do
If soldier like you
I was ordered to Afghanistan
Would I be true
Bid friends adieu
And be proud to do what I can

Would I be brave
And try to save
A colleague down in the dirt
Run to his side
And try to hide
His body from any more hurt

I hope that I could
Crawl through the mud
And shield him till help arrived
Get him safe home
Not leave him alone
Be glad that a friend had survived

I’ll never know
How far I would go
I’m too old to enter this fray
But I will not cease
In praying for peace
Or thinking of them every day
