Wings Clipped

From Hampton Court down to ‘The Tower’ by Royal Appointment heads did roll
Through ‘Traitors’ Gate’ they disappeared when viewed from riverside, ‘No More’
To meet untimely fate when fixed beneath the Ravens deadly stare
Yon’ personage of highest blood and office met their journey’s end

On ‘Tower Green’ the block was laid, supporting heads bereft of life
Both Queens and Kings some Noblemen, did kneel in supplication here
To Him who reigns in judgement call beyond the earthly realm of man
In hopeful recognition that sweet innocence, shed doubts and fears

‘Yeoman of the Guard’ kept watch on ‘Blood of Blue’ and Jewels of State
Treasures of the Kingdom held in hoped for perpetuity
Cullinan and Koh-i-Noor such facets rarely shown before
Adorn both Crown and Sceptre too, of this most ‘Green and Pleasant Land’

‘Princes Two’ hath disappeared, ne’er either one was seen again
Sir Thomas More with steadfast faith did pay a price too high for some
Ghostly apparitions seen to walk the battlements at night
One with head tucked under arm, could e’er be such a fearsome sight
