Left Behind

Because you left so suddenly
And we are left behind
The only sound we hear today
In our collective mind
Is
Hearts, still beating, though they’re broken

Because we didn’t get the chance
To tell you when we could
We who are left must silently
Repeat the words we should
The
Words of love, now left unspoken

Because you left us, far too young
With so much left to do
We, selfishly, consider
How some day, we’ll follow you
With
Fears of mortality awoken

Because we’ll miss you, O! So much
Your laughter and your tears
Your generosity of heart
Your triumphs and your fears
We offer
These few words; a small sad token
