The Shadow Of The Trees

Joe Anderson ma dear Joe.
We walked the fields together.
And manys a happy hour, Joe
We slept with one another.
Our love, was like a red rose
That blossoms in the snow.
Our love was like a sweet breeze-
That o’ so gently blows.
I love you as you are, Joe
Your locks as white as snow
Your curls are a long gaun
Though, I love you a’ the more.
For though your brows now beaten
Your back’s bowed low and bent
I’ll haud ye in ma arms, Joe
Until our last breath’s spent.
Our love, was like a red rose
That blossoms in the snow
Our love, was like a sweet breeze
That o’ so gently blows.
You were a’ the world to me , Joe
You were a’ I truly had
And I gave ma life for you so
We’d never be apart
And, now, we lay together
In this hallowed place of death
And in our narrow lair, Joe
We’ll make our final bed…
We’ll listen to the birdsong
The rustle of the leaves
We’ll listen to the hushed sobs
Of mothers as they grieve.
For here we’ll lay together
And here we’ll ever be
Joined by true love for ever
In the shadow of the trees.
Our love, was like a promise
Two lovers made in Heaven.
Our love, was like the starlight
That sparkles in the river.
And blessed be those who come here,
And blessed be those who don’t
For a’ we shared and held dear,
Was a’ we truly owned…
Our love, was like a red rose,
That blossoms in the snow
Our love ,was like a sweet breeze,
That o’ so gently blows.
You were a’ the world to me, Joe
You were a ‘ I truly had.
And I lived ma life for you so,
We’d never be apart…
And here we’ll lay together,
And here we’ll ever be-
Joined by true for ever
In the shadow of the trees…
