The weeping widow

The weeping widow
She weeps her tears
For she has lost her much loved dear

He went to war so brave and strong
A soldier who would do no wrong
The protesters they would jeer and shout
As the soldiers moved on out

He arrives in theatre in another land
Can this place really be such a bad land?
Such a distance away from home
But the soldier he does not moan

He sets about the task in hand
To bring peace and prosperity
To this blood soaked land
But try as he may
There will always be an enemy

For one day he is unfortunate
An unlucky man
Wrong place and time
He has driven over a mine

The vehicle explodes and he is killed
The enemy they are so thrilled
Another British soldier they have just killed

A terrible blow
His wife she just says NO
This can’t be true
For he is my soldier blue

The weeping widow
She weeps her tears
For she has lost her much loved dear
