Too Many Children

Children in the kitchen,
Children in the hall,
Children in the dining room
Playing bat and ball.
Children in the parlour
Children in the car,
They haven’t got the keys
So they won’t be going far.
Children in the front room,
Children in the back,
Children sticking postage stamps
Upon, the dog and cat!
Children in their bedrooms
Trying to get to sleep,
Children praying up to God
For their souls to keep:
Children in the closet,
Children in the porch,
Children under blankets
Playing with a torch.
Children in the garden,
Children in the shed,
Children on the staircase
Going up to bed.
Children on the landing
Waiting in a queue,
They’ll be there forever
Mother’s hiding in the loo!
